Where it all begins, stories of identity, family, history, culture and the quiet moments that shape who we are. From my father’s poetry readings in Damascus to navigating life in Alabama, Roots explores the past that lives within us and the traditions we carry forward. It is a place to reflect on where we come from and consider how it shapes both our present and our becoming.

Roots tells why I came to the United States, chasing what Syria could not give me: the freedom to speak and create, justice for effort, the possibility of peace and the chance to make dreams real. It also honors the heart of my homeland, the tight weave of family, the instinct to care for others and the quiet sacrifices made for those in need.

Love, kindness, charity and hope live side by side in Syria, in Alabama and in whatever place we call home.

Here, the past rests gently inside the present, like a folded letter carried in the heart.
